Transition Hackathon
This is a formal collective problem-solving workshop in which a team of significant stakeholders will use Transition Engineering thinking tools to address in detail one problem, system, organisation, product or service.
You would choose to run this activity to use the Transition Engineering process on a system comprising all or a part of your organisation, as a key first step in breaking out of the rut of “business-as-usual” and initiating a corporate journey to a more prosperous future.
Universities would run a Transition Hackathon as an engaging teaching exercise for students on courses in the fields of Engineering or Business Management.
It is best implemented offsite, in a place where all people can spend the whole day with no distractions; it should have a big working space, possibly break-out rooms, and offer refreshments and lunch. You can choose a location that suits your team.
Please discuss with me who should be invited to participate, so that we get the right people.
The workshop will be led by Daniel Kenning at your site, or, if numbers warrant, Daniel plus one or even two colleagues to facilitate the collective problem-solving activities through the day.
This activity takes a while to set up, there’s pre-work to do, and you need several people to be available for a whole day so allow 6-8 weeks between initial enquiry and delivery.
Pre-work:
- Identification of Stakeholders who provide motivation, authority, control, expertise, legitimation of change, and neighbours. We can help ensure you ask the right people.
- Identification of your system: all the factors you can control, those you can influence, and those you cannot, and your system boundary.
- Most recent SWOT analysis; identification of known strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats,
- Clear definition of what your organisation does; what need it meets and what product or service it provides.
